UWT Institute of Technology

The following policies were approved by the voting faculty of the Institute of Technology.

  • Faculty Annual Review. Details the process by which faculty at different ranks are reviewed.
  • Collegial Evaluation of Teaching. Describes how teaching is evaluated for full-time faculty, with links to evaluation forms.
  • Promotion and Tenure: Documents for candidates to include in the P&T file and Guidelines for evaluating P&T files.
  • Faculty Mentoring. Formal process for the assignment of mentors to full-time faculty and for review of the mentoring relationships.
  • Faculty Workload Guidelines. Provides a formal expression of collective valuing of faculty work.
  • Hiring and Evaluation of Part-time Instructors. Procedures for required application documentation, interviews, and mentoring.
  • Absentee Voting Process. Process for carrying out absentee voting.
  • Industry Fellows. Process for approval of industry fellow to pair with faculty members in teaching at the Institute.
  • Institute Committees. Establishes a committee associated with each of the degree programs in the Institute. Details the committee requirements, eligibility for membership, chairmanship.

    Authorizing Legislation

    Section 13-31 of the University of Washington Policy Directory states: "By authority derived from statutes of the state, from resolutions of the Board of Regents, and from executive orders of the President, the University faculty ... confers upon the chancellors, deans, and faculties of the independently organized campuses, colleges, and schools, and the departments thereof, the powers and duties set forth in Chapter 23, and authorizes the faculty in each of these to effect its own organization and to delegate to committees, councils, or departments such of its powers and duties as it deems appropriate."
