The mission of The Canvas is to promote an inclusive arts community that engages people of all ages and abilities. We provide opportunities for all members of the Juneau community to create art at all skill levels, ages, and abilities and strive to engage people who experience disabilities in all aspects of our programming.
Ceramics Studio Manager:
Provides general management of the pottery studio and support for the full integration and inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities at The Canvas. Areas of management include, but are not limited to, inventory and organization of supplies, cleanliness and safety of studio, and orienting and supervising members and volunteers. Areas of client support include, but are not limited to, daily living skills, communication, socialization, and community integration activities. Manager is also responsible for planning and teaching classes for all ages and abilities.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Create a positive and safe learning environment to accommodate a diverse group of students.
- Teach both artists who experience disabilities and members of the community of all ages. This includes small groups of artists within the studio as well as community-based classes.
- Assist with establishing artistic, technical, and social goals for individual students and review progress in achieving these goals. Help select student art work for exhibit in the studio and/or outside exhibits. Design and implement adaptations as needed.
- Maintain the pottery studio environment including cleaning the space and equipment, inventorying and organizing supplies, and working with the Artistic Coordinator to order supplies as needed.
- Ensure the studio is prepared each day depending on the class and open studio schedule.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form with individuals, community members, parents, agency staff, and other service agencies.
- Manage special projects, including empty bowls, ceramic works for sale, and other projects for community outreach as coordinated with Canvas Director.
