Ten Speed Press, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, offers a six-month fellowship in their design department.
Qualified candidates must be graduates of an accredited BFA or MFA program in Graphic Design and be creative, collaborative designers with an interest in illustrated book publishing and an affinity for cooking, art/design, gift, and humor categories. We require outstanding organizational and communication abilities, eagerness to work as part of a team, and the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
As a design fellow you will work collaboratively with creative professionals ranging from illustrators, chefs, and photographers, to editors and designers. Projects and responsibilities include:
- Creating one-off book and cover designs, from concept to print-ready files
- Learning to work within established budget and guidelines
- Executing design concepts generated by others
- Creating InDesign templates based on your designs
- Assisting with art direction and managing photography shoots
- Implementing editorial text corrections to interior book pages
- Assisting with design and correction of eBooks, enhanced eBooks, and eBook originals
- Designing print and online ads, catalog materials, posters, dummy books, and other marketing materials
- Researching stock illustrations and photographs for use in books or on book covers
- Color-correcting and proofing digital photography using color-calibrated monitor and printer
- Maintaining schedules and meeting deadlines on assigned projects
The position will be for 6 months, working 28 hours a week at $17.50 per hour, no benefits
