B(r)auhaus Design Workshop – Free Design Competition/Workshop

Workshop B(r)auhaus Design Workshop

Bauhaus meets Brauhaus. Goethe Pop Up Seattle partners with Lowercase Brewing and Bottleworks to can German-American Friendship – and we want YOU to help us design the label for the beer release in summer 2021. Get creative in this Bauhaus-inspired workshop!

102 years ago this April, the Staatliches Bauhaus opened in Weimar. An avant-garde institution built on revolutionary ideas, its influence extended far beyond its operations, and continues to shape our design language to the present day.

This workshop immerses itself in Bauhaus philosophy–the symbiosis of art and craftsmanship–and focuses primarily on graphic design. This background will inform and inspire the practical component of the workshop: designing the label for the latest beer creation from Lowercase Brewing.

The B(r)auhaus workshop is a refreshing Saturday program for designers, design aficionados, and beer lovers alike!

The workshop will take place virtually and the number of participants is limited. Some experience with graphic design is desired but not required. The workshop is appropriate for anyone from beginners to established designers.

  • Introduction to the color and form theory of the Bauhaus masters

The workshop will be led by Jan Christian Schulz. We will welcome a special guest from Lowercase Brewing who will provide insights into the philosophy of the brewery before the workshop closes with the kick-off for the practical design task.

Workshop Session #2 – Feedback & Mentoring
Saturday, 05/22/2021, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM (PDT)

  • Mentoring session and feedback on each participant’s current status of the designed beer label
  • Tips & support for the creation of individual designs

For the mentoring session, our workshop facilitator Jan Christian Schulz will be joined by Hamburg-based designer and art director Nathalie Krammer, whose work focuses on branding for the food and fashion industry.

In the weeks following the second workshop session, a jury will select a B(r)auhaus label from the workshop results submitted by June 1st, which will get printed on the new beer can of the Lowercase brewery! The designer of the winning label will receive a design fee of $500. All submitted designs will be featured in an online exhibition.
