I’d like to present a poster during the poster session/reception on June 19. What do I need to do?
When registering for the workshop/conference, please check that you’d like to present a poster, and
provide the title. You can email us at
apmevent@uw.edu if you have already registered and need to
change your response to this question.
Poster size: Posters should be a maximum of 40 inches x 60 inches in size.
I was contacted to arrange my accommodations for the conference.
Is that legitimate?
This conference has not authorized any third parties to solicit attendees by phone or email to assist with travel and/or lodging arrangements. If you are contacted, it may be fraudulent.
Is there any funding support available?
Student registration is free. Participants may qualify for $500 partial funding by emailing their CV to
apmevent@uw.edu before 5/1/19. They should arrange for one letter of reference to be sent directly to
this address on their behalf as well. Female students and students from underrepresented groups are
especially encouraged to apply.
Workshop participants are welcome to attend the succeeding conference, and they are encouraged to
present a poster during the poster session/reception on 6/19/19.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
- Monday morning, 6/17/19. Optimization and data science, A. Aravkin (3 hrs)
- Monday afternoon, 6/17/19. A selection of applications, various speakers (2 hrs)
- Tuesday morning, 6/18/19. Methods of data science, J. Nathan Kutz (3 hrs)
- Tuesday afternoon, 6/18/19. A selection of applications, various speakers (2hrs)

How can I make the most of my time at this event?
There are many ways you can maximize your time while attending Applied Math: The Next 50 Years!
Our suggestions include:
- Gain visibility by participating
- Volunteer roles are available. Check out shifts here.
- Present a poster on Wednesday at the poster session and reception.
- Build relationships
- Meet new people, but develop existing relationships too.
- Attend the social events, to chat with others in a more relaxed setting.
- Plan ahead
- Have a sense of the sessions you’d like to attend in advance, so you know where to go.
- Bring business cards, and make sure your resume is up-to-date. You never know who
you might meet.
- Take notes
- It will help jog your memory later on when sharing details with friends and colleagues.
- You can reference your notes when following up with speakers or other attendees after
the conference.
