Washington State Antimicrobial Resistant Gonococcal Infection (ARGC) Center of Excellence
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designated drug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae one of the top five antibiotic resistant threats facing the United States.1 The CDC monitors antimicrobial resistant gonococcal infection (ARGC) through (1) the Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project (GISP), established in 1986, and (2) Strengthening the U.S. Response to Resistant Gonorrhea (SURRG), established in 2016. Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC) participates in both activities. The Washington State ARGC Center of Excellence is a collaboration between the University of Washington, PHSKC, and the Washington State Department of Health, and is designed to prepare for and respond to the emergence of ARGC in Washington State.
