New Director for UW Center for AIDS and STD

We are pleased to announce that Matthew R. Golden, MD, MPH has accepted the position of director of the University of Washington (UW) Center for AIDS and STD (CFAS).  Dr. Golden has served as the Center’s co-director since September 2018, working with Dr. King Holmes, the Center’s director since its establishment in 1989. Dr. Golden will lead strategic planning activities for the Center along with Dr. Holmes, CFAS Associate Director Susan Mello, Allergy and Infectious Disease Division Head Dr. Anna Wald and Division Administrator Darcie Roberts. The CFAS Leadership Team provides strategic vision for the Center and oversees educational activities such as the Principles of STD and HIV Research and Public Health Practice Course, and various HIV/STD-related distance-learning offerings through the eLearning program in the UW Department of Global Health.

The UW Center for AIDS and STD currently has over 700 affiliated faculty at UW and at collaborating institutions through the Pacific Northwest and internationally. Its mission is to prevent the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and to reduce human suffering caused by these infections. The Center promotes synergies across UW’s many HIV/STD related activities, including patient care, education and training, and research, and seeks to coordinate and integrate UW’s HIV/STD related work with key local, national and international collaborators, including the Washington State Department of Health, Public Health – Seattle & King County, other local health departments throughout WA State, the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization.
