Recommendations for STI and HBV Treatment and Prevention in Washington State

In 2021, the Washington State Legislature asked the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) to convene a workgroup to make recommendations concerning funding and policy initiatives to address the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STI) in Washington. More specifically, the legislature asked the workgroup to develop recommendations to achieve the following objectives:

  • Eradicate congenital syphilis and hepatitis B by 2030.
  • Control the spread of gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia.
  • End the need for confirmatory syphilis testing by the Public Health Laboratory.
  • Expand access to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

Several CFAS faculty participated in the workgroup, which completed its work in December 2022.  The committee’s recommendations are available at the following link.
