What If?

A photo of a young woman looking in the mirror, wearing a pink dressNot far above itchy hug around chest
of just-purchased sparkly pink vintage dress

my brain
is trotting circles ’round a teapot and cup

What if…

twittering fingers tearing at scones as though starving,
flittering eyes too,
in creaky café chair,
rocking,

What if I stayed…

walking,
not hearing chatter and applause,
not seeing castle-tops and photo-ops,
not feeling bodies packed on sidewalks,
squeezing me through without looking,

What if I stayed here…

Ecstasy.
Everyone, leave me alone!
Scratch me on the way out the gate already.

… forever?
