UW Center for Human Neuroscience

Psych 555B (Seminar in Cognition & Perception)

KINCAID 555, Tuesdays 11-11.50

Instructor: Ione Fine

Ever wanted to look inside your own brain? Thanks to a generous Student Tech Fee grant the Center for Human Neuroscience has the opportunity to offer students the chance to carry out their own research in human neuroscience.

Although this is listed as a Psychology class, it’s open to a wide variety of students: from clinical psychology to philosophy – anyone interested in human neuroscience. No prior experience necessary!

This class is associated with two STF projects

The CHN-STF Collective. This is a student-led project that collects a variety of anatomical and resting state measures that can be correlated with survey questions. You can find out more about it here.

The new NeuroAI CHN-STF Collective. This will collect a large functional MRI dataset suitable for NeuroAI.

Classes will be a combination of in person and on Zoom when we have remote guest speakers.  Registration is optional, though preferred.

We will focus on explaining basics about the human brain and neuroimaging, and how to use the current data set to do projects. The topics will be much as follows, though the order of classes and the content is likely to shift based on where our whims take us.

1. April 1 Zoom 858-945-4793 Intro to the classs. What is the CHN-STF Project? The STF-CHN collective is an ongoing project that has collected a variety of interesting neuroimaging measures on a group of participants. Students designed their own accompanying questionnaire that includes a really wide variety of measures. Any UW student is allowed access to the dataset, so they can correlate the results of the questionnaires with the neuroimaging measures to explore their own questions about the brain.
