Summer 2019 internships provided excellent experience for first-year CFRM students. Placement ranged from large banking institutions such as U.S. Bank in Minneapolis, Bank of America in Charlotte, HSBC in New York and BECU in Seattle; to smaller, niche companies that are making a big impact in the business sector they serve. These include Bazean Corporation, QuantConnect, and Parallax Volatility Advisors.
Bazean Corporation, headquartered in Houston, has a fast-growing office in Seattle and hired a CFRM student as a Data Science intern. Bazean builds and utilizes data and analysis to drive investment decisions in the energy sector.
QuantConnect is changing the way quantitative trading is done by combining cloud computing and open data access. They have hired CFRM graduates and students as Quantitative Developers, both as a full-time employee and interns. QuantConnect users can design and test trading strategies in Equities, FX, CFD, Options or Future Markets using QuantConnect data and coding in different programming languages. QuantConnect also holds hedge fund sponsored competitions.
Parallax Volatility Advisers, LP, based in San Francisco, has two CFRM student interns in their Seattle location working as Quantitative Developers/Analysts. Parallax employs a global volatility relative value strategy that incorporates multiple trading strategies being utilized opportunistically. The process identifies trading opportunities by options flow analysis that is supported by qualitative and quantitative evaluation. They target the most attractive risk-adjusted portfolio of volatility exposures in both listed and over-the-counter options on global equities, indexes, ETFs, and commodities.
In addition to Bazean Corporation, CFRM students held internships in energy-based companies, such as Seattle City Light in Risk Oversight & Power Analysis, and at The Energy Authority in Analytics.
The Summer of 2019 saw nineteen CFRM students with internships in five U.S. cities, China, and Greece.
