Light weight soils

Introduction

In today’s urban landscape, traditional gardens have been raised vertically from the ground to the top of structures. The limiting factor of soil and water on roof top applications is weight. The solution is an engineered soil that is lightweight but still retains characteristics of landscape soil: permeable, stable, and fertile. Lightweight soils are engineered for specific weight limits for roof gardens and planters, thus, allowing structures to have vegetation in a different harsher environment.

Lightweight soils are typically made to comply with weight constrains on a rooftop structure, structural soils on the other hand are used in paved surfaces to meet           load-bearing requirements and engineering standards and improve the vitality and growth of urban trees by providing an appropriate volume of soil, adequate water, nutrients and oxygen.
