When considering the use of cisterns
in a rainwater collection system, one must consider cost, site conditions,
scale issues, installation requirements, intended purpose of water
collected, the quality of rainfall in the area, and the climate.
The cistern is the primary expense of a rainwater collection system.
A well designed rainwater collection system, which provides the
water needs of a home, can cost the same as putting in a well. The
operating expenses of the rainwater system are less. Cisterns work
best in areas where a well can not be dug.
