Nancy Ngumbau, MBChB, MPH

University of Nairobi/PhD Candidate

Dr. Nancy Ngumbau, MBChB, MPH, is a PhD trainee in the ITEGRATE/IARTP Program, Funded by the Fogarty International Training Center. She is obtaining her degree from the University of Nairobi (UoN), and is currently taking advance coursework for Fall quarter at the University of Washington (UW). She is a medical doctor and research scientist based at the Research and Programs Department at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Dr. Ngumbau has coordinated and conducted several implementation science trials, studies and audits to aid in improving the quality of healthcare services delivered to the population and facilitate policy development. Over the past 5 years, her primary research focus has been on HIV prevention among pregnant and postpartum women, particularly looking at how to deliver PrEP to this population. She completed her MPH at UW in 2021 with support from the FIC-funded HIV Care Cascade program, and her thesis was, “Uptake of male partner HIV self testing following distribution of HIV self test kits to pregnant women attending antenatal clinics. “ She is supported with her PhD by her mentors including Dr. John Kinuthia (KNH) and Dr. Grace-John Stewart (UW).
