Rashmi Maharjan, MSc

Rashmi Maharjan, MSc, is a second year PhD Student in the Department of Epidemiology in the Cardiometabolic Research and Training Program at the University of Washington (UW), funded by the Fogarty International Center. Ms. Maharjan is a nursing lecturer, nurse manager, and researcher at Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences in Dhulikhel, Nepal. She has over 9 years of experience in clinical management, prevention, and research on cardiometabolic diseases. Ms. Maharjan co-leads multiple research projects on cardiometabolic diseases at the community level under the Department of Research and Development. She has led a NIH funded four-year research training project titled, “Translational research capacity building initiative to address cardiovascular diseases in Nepal.” Ms. Maharjan will explore the role of social determinants in the control of hypertension among participants of Dhulikhel Heart Study, a longitudinal cohort study of more than 2500 patients at Dhulikhel Hosp. In addition to patient and provider components, this study will also assess the existing gender gap in hypertension awareness and control. This study will have both quantitative and qualitative components. Her primary mentors are Dr. Annette Fitzpatrick (UW), Dr. Biraj Karmacharya (KU), and Dr. Archana Shrestha (KU).
