Welcome

The Innovation in Urban Freight workshop was hosted by the Puget Sound Regional Council and the University of Washington on February 6,7 2012. The purpose of the workshop is to learn of urban goods movement practices around the world and to explore their application to metropolitan regions domestically and internationally. We invited partnerships of cities, universities (or research organizations), and/or private sector entities from around the world to submit joint papers describing their goods movement challenges, policy and technology applications, and outcomes.

Abstract Requirements

The following is the description of the desired abstract features:

  • Describe the urban goods movement challenges being addressed.
  • Describe the design/engineering, policy, and/or technology application.
  • Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the solutions applied, including costs.
  • Discuss any observable consequences (including unintended ones).
  • Discuss any political or cultural factors that played a role in the effectiveness of the solution.
  • Describe the role of the private sector, public sector, and community or social groups.
  • The abstract should not exceed 4 pages of text, including title, author list, and references.

  • November 15, 2011 —extended abstracts due
  • November 30, 2011—Travel funding application due
  • December 1, 2011—decisions regarding abstracts delivered
  • January 1, 2012 —full papers due
  • February 6, 2012 —workshop begins
  • March 15, 2012 —paper reviews delivered
  • June 15, 2012 —final papers due

    Selected workshop papers will be published in the Journal of Urbanism
