In March 2016, Hannah Aitchison joined NESAC/BIO as a postdoctoral researcher to investigate polymer scaffolds for tissue regeneration using ToF-SIMS.
Hannah received her PhD in June 2015 from the University of St Andrews, Scotland. Her research, under the supervision of Prof Manfred Buck, focused on exploring new directions in the design and application of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). These SAMs were investigated using a multi-technique approach comprising a complementary combination of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy.
In June 2011, Hannah obtained her Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of St Andrews. During her undergraduate studies, she investigated surface modification using SAMs to create templates that could be used to build surface anchored metal-organic framework materials into the third dimension. Additionally, she spent one year working as an analytical chemist at the pharmaceutical company UCB in Slough.
Outside of the lab, Hannah has interests in reading, wildlife and archery.
