Covid-19 Exposure Risk for Family Members of Healthcare Workers: An Observational Study

Category:

Topic:

  • In a study of health care workers and their family members in Italy, 5% (2/38) of health care workers and 32% (26/81) of their family members tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. In two families, healthcare workers were the people who tested negative. The authors suggest that family members had a higher exposure to SARS-CoV-2 infection via the general population, compared to health care workers, and that health care workers may not have been a main source of SARS-CoV-2 for their families.
