AED Weekly Update

Hey Premeds

Here’s what’s going on with AED this week! Be extra sure you note the change in meeting time and place this week! Don’t worry – it’ll be worth it 🙂

AED’s LAST general meeting of the quarter: Bioethics

This week AED and MEDIC (Medical Ethics Discussion for Interdisciplinary Collaboration – UW’s bioethics discussion group) will be collaborating! We will be having 2 guest speakers from UW’s Human Subjects Division: Emily Guthrie, the Assistant Director for Operations: Social/Behavioral and Shannon Sewards, the Assistant Director for Operations: Biomedical. This will be an awesome opportunity to learn more about human subjects in research – which is super important for any doctor who might be doing research, or have patients who want to participate in research (think clinical trials in oncology or pharmacology). It’s definitely something you don’t want to miss. MEDIC meetings are structured as informal discussion sessions – so come ready to talk, and with that in mind also remember to be respectful of others views and polite!

NOTE this meeting will be held on Tuesday 11/27 from 5:00pm-6:30pm (though don’t feel obliged to stay that long) in HSB T Wing 359. Double member points are being offered!

However space may be limited in the room – so please RSVP here so we get an idea of how many we need to prepare for: https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/drewsm/185521

Gingerbread Hospital Building

Come join us for AED’s last social event of the quarter – gingerbread hospital decorating! We’ll have a competition to see who can decorate the coolest candy hospital and it’s going to be a blast! The room is TBD (stay tuned on your email folks!) but we know the event will be happening on Thursday, November 29th at 5 PM.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Celebrate mental health awareness week with AED in Red Square from 11:30-2:30 pm. Your AED officers will be out tabling with a bunch of other health related RSOs in order to increase awareness of mental health, so stop by!

That’s all for now – hope you all had a great thanksgiving and are ready for the long stretch into finals
