Second General Meeting (And Other Events!)

Greetings Premeds, (First, sorry for the absurdly long email. There are many events and opportunities to be mentioned, but the main message is the first paragraph below!) Thank you all for the great turnout for our first meeting! Now, it’s time for the second general meeting, the Officers Panel! Please note that this meeting will be held in a different room than mentioned before! It will be Tuesday, October 15 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Savery 260. Please RSVP on the catalyst survey (https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/eschrick/214925) so we can plan for how much free food to bring! And again, if you are interested in having an officer mentor, please fill out the catalyst survey (https://catalyst.uw.edu/catalyst/chooser/6595c8a0dd607790bfa76358056c56e5). Also, please note that volunteering events with Hope Heart’s Youth Take Heart at Pacific Science Center and NeighborCare’s Pumpkin Push 5K are now closed! If you have signed up for one of these events, you should have already gotten an e-mail with more details. If not, we will be sending one soon. We’ll also have more updates as the date gets closer. Thanks for such a great response you guys! AED also has a host of new events to share with you all this week: If you missed the first HCASB info session, and you’re still interested in hearing about this incredible rural shadowing program- come out to our 2nd info session this week on Wednesday, October 16th from 5-6 pm in Smith 304! If you didn’t get a chance to sign up to volunteer for The Pumpkin Push 5k for Neighborcare Health or even if you are volunteering and would like to take part in actually running the 5k, Val is leading a team for AED so we can run together as a club and show off our awesome shirts together! If you’re interested sign up for the 5k online at (http://www.neighborcare.org/events/pumpkin-push). Click Register with a team and our team name is: Team AED. Once you’ve registered, we’ll send out an email to you with further details! AED Pumpkin Carving Social on Thursday, October 24th from 6-8pm! Come get ready for Halloween with AED by carving pumpkins with fellow pre-meds! Please RSVP via the link so we know how many pumpkins to get! (https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/eschrick/214926) Remember that we require at least ONE social event to be eligible for our physician shadowing program! Please stay tuned for the updated room location. Check out this cool opportunity to participate in Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s fundraiser/awareness event (http://rrsseattleadventurerun.eventbrite.com/)! Seattle Road Runner Sports Adventure Run is a fun, 60-minute scavenger run filled with hundreds of friends, giveaways, raffle prizes, music and beer garden. The idea is you run to fun checkpoints near your Seattle Road Runner Sports store to grab as many free raffle tickets as you can. The more checkpoints you get to, the more chances you’ll have to win over $3,000 in gift certificates and running gear. Did we mention it’s FREE? DON’T MISS OUT!!! Come volunteer with American Heart Association at their 2013 Puget Heart and Stroke Walk! The walk is being held at the Seattle Center on October 26, 2013. This is a great way to get involved with raising awareness and money for cardiovascular research. Shifts will be open on October 25th for set-up and October 26th for the actual race. We will have a sign-up sheet at the meeting, which will put you on the e-mail list for more information. If you can’t make it to the meeting, shoot Mitchell (mitchellchen12@hotmail.commitchellchen12@hotmail.com>) a quick e-mail and we’ll put you on the list. Thanks! If you’re interested in global health, specifically participating in a healthcare revitalization program in Guatemala and teaching global health workshops to local boys and girls clubs, come join Global HEED and see what we’re about! We meet in Savery 137 on Thursdays from 7 to 8pm. This a great opportunity to get involved in medically-related topics outside of your traditional comfort zone. If you’d like some more information, please feel free to e-mail Mitchell at mitchellchen12@hotmail.commitchellchen12@hotmail.com> for more details. Props to any of you who read through this whole wall of text. We will try to keep them shorter in the future and hope to see everyone on Tuesday! – Jack Mo Webmaster, AED 2013-2014 default iconATT00001.c
