Project Healthcare: A Summer Internship at the Bellevue Hospital Emergency Department in New York City

The application for Project Healthcare at Bellevue Hospital’s Emergency Department will remain open until January 15th, 2015.

Project Healthcare is a summer-intensive internship designed to immerse undergraduates/post-graduate/post-baccalaureates in the realities of the healthcare field at Bellevue Hospital Center. Throughout the ten-week program, participants perform clinical shifts throughout the Emergency Department (including the pediatric and psychiatric EDs), Operating Room, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Social Work. Students also get to observe autopsies at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, ride on FDNY ambulances, serve as health educators for a day managing a booth at our annual health fair, and work on a research project.

Through working on rotating shifts for, on average, 25 hours per week, observing minor invasive procedures and trauma cases, shadowing clinicians, and serving as patient advocates, students gain a tremendous amount of contact with patients and healthcare providers.

Interested students can learn more about the program and access the online application form at the below link:

Please be advised that the application requires submission of an online form, essay, CV, photo and two letters of recommendation. Out of our applicant pool, we invite a portion to come in for an interview. We usually offer 3-4 interview days on weekends in March (around the time of most spring breaks). We generally receive 800+ applications per year and end with a group of 50 participants.
