2016 Citizen University

Apply for an exciting opportunity to attend the 2016 Citizen University taking place in Seattle on March 18 & 19, 2016!

Citizen University’s annual national conference is a creative and vibrant gathering on the art of powerful citizenship.  Hundreds of change makers, activists and catalysts from across the United States show up to learn about power, build their networks and recharge their sense of purpose.  As Citizen University states, “Learn the elements of civic power. Practice social and political action. Citizen University 2016 is taking place on Friday, March 18 from 6 – 9:00 p.m. AND Saturday, March 19 from 8 am – 5:30 p.m. at Seattle Center. The University of Washington* is sponsoring and covering the cost for 28 UW students to attend this exciting conference.  These 28 students will play an active and involved role at the conference as participants.

What is required of the UW students selected to attend Citizen University 2016?

  • Attend a pre-conference orientation on Tuesday, 3/8 at 5:30 – 7 p.m. in Mary Gates Hall 258.
  • Attend and participate in the entire conference on Friday, 3/18 from 6- 9:00 p.m. AND Saturday, 3/19 from

8a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Seattle Center.

  • Enroll in (or audit) the Citizen University 1-credit CR/NC course this spring quarter (GEN ST 344) to further explore your concepts of citizenship.

o   Course will meet Wednesdays : April 13, April 27, May 11 (see below), and May 25 from 3:30 – 5 p.m.

  • Present your learnings at the Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership on May 11, 2016. (This event intentionally overlaps with one of our class sessions.)
