Massage is the use of touch with therapeutic purposes. There are many techniques of massage, ranging from light touch to deep tissue massage, as well as traditional forms of massage coming from different cultures around the world (such as Lomi Lomi from Hawaii, Thai massage, Chinese Tui Na massage, etc.). Some massage techniques focus on certain areas of the body, such as reflexology, which is practiced on hands and feet. Others apply touch throughout the whole body, such as Swedish massage.

Massage is a highly regulated profession in Washington State. As such, professional massage therapists are required to participate in a minimum of 500-700 hours training and pass a board exam to obtain a license that needs to be renewed every year.
