Cancer Treatment Side Effects & Supportive and Palliative Care
Nausea and Vomiting
Nausea and vomiting are common side effects from chemotherapy treatment in cancer patients. Some natural therapies have been identified that may help decrease nausea and vomiting when used by themselves or along with the usual anti-nausea drugs.
Acupuncture for nausea and vomiting
Acupuncture has been shown to be very effective to control nausea and vomiting, particularly when they are related to chemotherapy. Acupuncture may be used to manage nausea and vomiting either by itself or in conjunction with drugs.
Ginger for nausea and vomiting
Ginger has been shown to be effective in reducing nausea, including chemotherapy-induced nausea. Ginger may be used safely either by itself or in conjunction with drugs. The most common use of ginger for nausea involves making a tea by boiling a quart of water with a couple of 3/4" slices of ginger root, then drinking the tea at regular intervals. Ginger is also available in capsule form and liquid extract, but it is advised that you consult with your health care provider if you want to use ginger in capsule or extract form.
