This test problem is being developed for a workshop sponsored by the CRESCENT Tsunami Sources for Hazards Assessment SIG in September, 2026.
The primary goal is for participants to experiment with downloading and using a set of 36 tsunami sources developed by researchers supported by the Cascadia CoPes Hub, which are described on this page
You are welcome to try using these sources on any modeling problem you choose, and we would be happy to hear any feedback from your experiences.
The Lagoon Creek test problem provides a specific location for modelers to try out these sources and compare results with what others compute in order to check that they are loading the sources properly, and to provide feedback on the format being used. The Lagoon Creek region in Northern California is of interest due to paleotsunami evidence found here, collected in part by members of the CRESCENT Cascadia Paleoseismology Working Group, CPAL. We hope this workshop will also encourage modelers to study the tsunami impacts in this region more detail.
