Molly Roberts, newly minted PhD, successfully defended her dissertation today! Her work focused on the relationship between mussel byssal thread attachment and growth. She explored variables such as depth, temperature, food availability, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. Her work took her to laboratories, field sites, and through complicated computer modeling. Some call her a “triple threat” – and they couldn’t be more right.
PhD Keywords: Mussel, byssus attachment, energetics, depth, growth, attachment, temperature, food, salinity, ocean acidification, dissolved oxygen, tradeoff , strength, scope for growth, laboratory, field, modeling
