SMALL INTESTINE AND APPENDIX
Case #4 -
A 61 year old with crampy mid-abdominal pain

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
6.) What are the differences between partial and complete small bowel obstruction? Is there a difference in management?

Partial small bowel obstruction allows some gas and fluid to pass by the point of obstruction. It is less likely to cause bowel viability compromise and may be managed conservatively. Complete obstruction likely will not resolve and is more often associated with bowel compromise. Complete obstruction should be managed operatively.
