Case #4 - A 61 year old with crampy mid-abdominal pain

 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Be able to list the common etiologies of small bowel obstruction.
  2. Be able to describe the symptoms and signs of bowel necrosis and discuss the urgency of therapy.
  3. Be able to describe initial resuscitation and management of a patient with small bowel obstruction.
  4. Given the history, physical findings, and imaging studies in a patient, be able to differentiate between partial and complete small bowel obstruction and state the primary management of each.
