VASCULAR SURGERY
Case #3 -
A 65 year old with a pulsatile abdominal mass

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
7.) How do you decide whether or not to operate on this patient?

The decision to operate is based on the risk/benefit ratio, considering the risk of rupture as opposed to the risk of surgery. Patients with aneurysms <5-5.5 cm in diameter have not been shown to benefit from repair in terms of long term survival.
