VASCULAR SURGERY
Case #3 -
A 65 year old with a pulsatile abdominal mass

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
8.) Is there any alternative to surgery? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this alternate approach?

An alternative approach to surgery is stent grafting (endografting). Preliminary data has failed to show any reduction in operative mortality or cost using this method. One complication of endografting is endoleak which may resolve spontaneously or require embolization. Or the stent does not adequately exclude the aneurysm and open operation will be required.
