BURNS AND CRITICAL CARE
Case #3 -
A 62 year old deteriorating postoperatively

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
6.) What are the initial basic steps in the management of sepsis?

Initial therapy is volume resuscitation with crystalloid. This resuscitation is monitored with blood pressure and urine output measurements. An infectious source should be identified and controlled. Antibiotics are indicated using empiric broad spectrum drugs until the results of cultures are available.
