UW Department of Surgery - Medical Students

Goals and Objectives

  • Function at sub-intern level and have expanded responsibility in patient management as compared to traditional medical student’s role.
  • Assist the vascular surgery residency team with inpatient consultation, ward and ICU daily notes, orders, post-op check, and other clinical care duties.
  • Attend clinic to see return and post op patients.
  • Scrub into OR cases and assist as needed to include patient’s prep/positioning, foley insertion, retraction, suctioning, suture/tying, and post op notes and orders.

A PHOTO ID BADGE IS REQUIRED AT ALL SITES. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Check-in Instructions: Students will receive an email verifying their enrollment in SURG 695 approximately six weeks prior to the start of the rotation.

UW Students: There is no additional credentialing needed for this rotation.

Visiting Students: No less than six weeks prior to the start of the rotation, please ensure that you have provided all the information that was requested in your VSLO offer letter. Additionally, please advise the site coordinator who your completed grade evaluation should be returned to following the completion of your rotation.
