Language In the Hmong Language there is two types of dialects. The two dialects are White and Green Hmong. The Stripe Hmong is also like the white Hmong dialect (Lewis, 58). When it comes to speaking, both dialects are hard to understand for the Green and the White Hmong because they both use different words but the same meaning (Lewis, 58). The Hmong language is an easy and tonal in structure. The language does have, adjective verbs and nouns. In addition throughout the Hmong language each word contains at least one vowel. The words that they say can be said in eight different tones. The Hmong language is also a very hard language to master because it has no true written script (Quincy, 16). The Hmong did not have a written script so a French missionary wrote the language base on a Vietnamese script. This was known to have probably preserved the Hmong language from being lost. It also provided a good reference to those who wanted to study the language (Quincy, 16). When the script for the Hmong language was written it was in the form of the white Hmong, but it could also represent the green Hmong variants sound (Lewis, 59). The Hmong language became so difficult to speak to each other that they are becoming more apparent between nationalities (Lewis, 59). Click here to see the Hmong written language. |
