Director of Rural Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal
Inge Petersen, PhD, is a Research Professor and psychologist in the field of public mental health, and Director of Centre for Rural Health (CRH) in the College of Health Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Over the past 20 years, she has played a leading role in several collaborative global mental health research consortia in low- and middle-income countries across Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. This work has spanned building the evidence for task sharing of psychosocial counselling interventions for adults, integrating mental health into primary health care using a collaborative care approach, mental health promotion for children and adolescents; to her more recent work on strengthening of health systems to be enabling of the integration of mental health care into routine health services, particularly at the primary health care and community levels of care.
