North Creek High School ELL Multilingual Classroom Assistant (In-Person) (Bothell)
Students will be assisting teachers in the classrooms. Ideal candidates seek to engage students and be an active instructional partner in the classroom. This is hands-on opportunity, not meant for observation. The ability to seek out and follow directions from teachers in how to best support is an important consideration. This promises to be a valuable, learning opportunity for UW Bothell students seeking to directly interact with students and educators in a comprehensive high school. We welcome and look forward to meeting interested student partners.
Responsibilities:
- Initial responsibilities would be to work in small groups (1-5 students at a time) and hold conversations in English, preferably at 90% language immersion or greater.
- Volunteers may bring their own conversation topics, or I can provide them if they prefer.
- If the volunteers are comfortable, they may also provide the students assistance with their other class work.
Language needs:
- Multilingual in Arabic, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese, but all are welcome.
- Dual language speakers of English and Arabic, Russian or Portuguese.
- Support in a Language Development Lab and/or classes such as Geometry, History, Biology, Physics and Zoology.
Student volunteers who can continue for two or more quarters are greatly appreciated by students and teachers! Please let us know if this is something you can consider.
Classroom Assistants will support high school youth by:
- Encouraging to enhance students’ academic performance
- Facilitate small group English conversation sessions
- Provide students with encouragement, identifying strengths and barriers, and provide students a positive role model
