Hyrax Films seeks Documentary Production Intern

Each semester we bring on 2-3 students from around the globe to engage in a hands-on experience with documentary production. You’ll be working directly in the office with the director, coordinating with the remote team, and learning and assisting on a variety of production related tasks.
Applicants should be self-starters with an interest in reshaping the future of cinematic journalism. This is an experiential internship. The director and his team tailor internships based on the individual, as such the job evolves over the course of a semester based on your strengths and interests.
Hours and start dates can be flexible, though you must be willing to work in Seattle.
It’s ok if you do not have a background in film production but are interested in applying your field of study to the documentary format. Such fields may include: Journalism, English, Psychology, Political Science, Cyber Forensics, etc.

Tasks May Include

  • Research
  • Field production assistance as needed
  • Gear prep for shoots
  • Post-production (media management and string-outs)
  • Outreach for interviews
  • Story editing / transcription selects
  • Office organization / production admin
  • Website management
  • Audience engagement for completed projects
We’re Looking For
  • Good writing skills (required)
  • A passion for nonfiction storytelling
  • Research skills
  • Ability and desire to work independently
  • An interest in technology, digital privacy, civil liberties
  • Familiarity with Final Cut Pro X (preferred)
  • Graphic Design Skills

A small documentary production house specializing in long form investigative journalism with a focus on technology.

Recent documentaries include “What Lies Upstream,” “Terms and Conditions May Apply,” and the HBO series “Q: Into the Storm.” Multiple projects are always in development.

Interns receive hands on production and post-production experience tailored to individual interests and background. Previous interns have commented that they learned more from their time with Hyrax than during 4 years of college. Some interns have moved on to paid positions.
