General Position Summary
The Art Technician supports Center Art’s organization mission, vision and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, personalization, accountability and ownership.
The Art Technician will support the Art and Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining cleanliness standards of the art and collections in the exhibition, garden and Collections Café. They will work indoors and outside to ensure the presentation of the artwork is in line with Dale Chihuly’s vision, and with Chihuly Studio guidelines. They will make record of routine art maintenance operations, inventory, and any incidents that may occur with the artwork and collections. The Art Technician supports the Host team on the exhibition floor when needed.
Primary Functions
- Must work early mornings. Start time as early as 5am.
- Must work weekends, specifically Saturdays
- Execute daily cleaning routines for all art and collections in the Exhibition, Garden, Bookstore and Collections Café
- Handle glass artwork as needed.
- Address and issues observed with art and collections in the exhibition, as well as any issues reported by other departments.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of art on a ladder
- Operate scissor and boom lifts, or be willing to learn.
- Work outdoors in the Garden in all types of weather, year round
- Record daily cleaning frequencies and compile data for monthly reports
- Record incidents in the galleries and work with Security when they report on incidents
- Maintain outgoing/incoming inventory records
- Maintain art cleaning supply area and order cleaning supplies as needed
- Knowledgeable about the exhibition, art work and collections
- Support the Host team during operating hours and perform gallery talks as needed
- Interact with guests in a positive, upbeat manner. Customer service oriented.
- Work with other departments as needed to meet Exhibition standards for start of business each day
- Quality control of products from Glass Studios, coordinate pick up by warehouse
- Work collaboratively with other departments that support our mission and operations
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Experience in art handling, exhibition installation, or equivalent
- Experience using hand tools and small equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Computer literate, comfortable using Microsoft Office products
- Proven great guest service skills.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
- Interest in museums and visual art a plus but not required.
- Ability to effectively communicate using the English language.
- Knowledge of Seattle and surrounding area preferred.
- Team player attitude.
- Ability to react quickly and correctly in a fast paced environment.
- Comfortable working with a diverse population and varied point of views.
- Excitement for learning and teaching.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to see near, far, and adjust focus in different lighting settings.

- Comfortably bend, reach, climb and squat while working with the art
- Lift up to 50 pounds
