NW Pottery Collective seeks Part-Time Instructor

Position: Class Instructor, Multiple Openings

Hourly Wage: $29 – $35 per hour depending upon qualifications

Schedule: Regular Quarterly Hours, Part Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Northwest Pottery Collective is a new, locally owned pottery studio in Issaquah, WA that provides a wide-range of ceramic art classes, open studio memberships, and specialty supply sales to the community. The mission of Northwest Pottery Collective is to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment for ceramic artists of all ages and abilities to engage with the ceramic arts and the community. We endeavor to be an inclusive, non-intimidating space where everyone, regardless of experience or perceived “artistic talent” can learn the ceramic arts and feel successful. At Northwest Pottery Collective, the Pottery Instructor is responsible for preparing, leading, and organizing class sessions for adults and children of various skill levels and experience. The Pottery Instructor will teach classes and age levels commiserate with their ceramic expertise but may be asked to stretch into other topics or age levels as needed. The Pottery Instructor may be asked to lead classes on evenings, weekends, or during the day.

Pottery Instructor duties at Northwest Pottery Collective include:

· Setting up, organizing, planning, and leading ceramic classes and workshops for adults and children

· Communicating, connecting, and engaging with class participants of various ages and abilities, both orally and in writing

· Creating a fun, energetic, and encouraging environment for learning

· Communicating the fundamentals of ceramic art techniques in an easily understood manner

· Ensuring a clean and organized studio environment after class and workshop sessions

· Taking class attendance, processing payments, updating customer accounts, and other administrative tasks as needed

· Commitment to a regular schedule on a quarterly basis that may include evenings and weekends

Qualifications

· Minimum 3 years creating ceramic art, either as a profession, student, or hobby

· Preferred: Minimum 2 years experience teaching ceramic arts, preferably wheel throwing and hand-building, to adults and/or children at a public or private institution

· Preferred: Minimum 1 year experience as a Studio Technician at a public or private institution

· Preferred: Experience with class registration software, processing customer payments, and managing class schedules

· Experience with studio operations, including claim reclaim, pugging, glaze mixing/maintenance, etc.

· Excellent leadership skills and adept at leading/teaching groups of 10-20 people

· Superior organizational skills

· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

· Have a helpful, friendly, and energetic attitude

· Be comfortable with occasionally serving alcohol during events and be able to attain appropriate permits

At Northwest Pottery Collective, we are hiring for multiple Class Instructor positions and will strive to fit each instructor with the class types that best fit their experience and
