ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
Wylie Burke, MD, PhD is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington, Adjunct Professor of Medicine (in the Division of Medical Genetics), and Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her work focuses on the ethical and policy implications of genetic information in research, public health, and clinical care.
This fund was established by a group of Wylie’s colleagues and friends to recognize and honor her work of explicitly recruiting and supporting young scholars from under-represented groups in the Academy. Her work and advocacy emphasized the need and importance of assuring that diverse voices are at the table and actively shaping the development and implementation of science policy and practice. This fund helps ensure that important work will continue.
