The UW Academic Medical Center reaches far beyond its Seattle campus to the Pacific Northwest and the world. It is particularly committed to the people of the western states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho — the WWAMI region — where small towns are scattered over a geographic area larger than one-quarter of the U.S. landmass. The challenge of serving rural and inner city populations has spawned distinctive programs responsive to community needs.
