This page was originally going to be devoted entirely to handbooks and
directories, which are also a highly used set of resources, and are most
often used by students. Instead, the space devoted to them will be brief
since there is not as much to say about them.
As reference resources, they are highly used for information related to
"diagrams, statistics, charts, tables..." These are most often requested
when students are doing a class project and are interested in finding out
some specific properties information. This information can also be found
in some online collection of handbooks/general reference specific to the Engineering field, such as
KNOVEL and ENGnetBASE.
For a more definitive web site on reference training at the UW Engineering Library, visit Information Services Librarian, Julie Cook's website, where she has practice questions, the current reference manual in PDF format, as well as a Power Point session on reference training at the Engineering Library. Instruction Services Librarian, Linda Whang was kind enough to let me teach a couple research workshops to students in technical communications courses taken by all engineering majors. Visit Linda Whang's website, where you will find the type of resources Linda teaches to students in these sessions. In addition, you may view some of the one-time, drop-in courses offered at the Engineering Library.
