With all the new people as well as lab members leaving, we've had to do some serious organizing and reorganizing of equipment and space, so please check out the new lab floor plan located in the equipment tab of the webpage at the top.

Check the new meeting schedule since we have new lab members. Students and staff, don't forget to get your picture taken and put up on the website so everyone can get to know you =)

New volunteers, do not forget to fill out the required paperwork specified by Laura downstairs AND to turn in your timesheets!

NEW MEMBERS! Remember to follow the first five steps in the Protocol section of the Pollack Lab Webpage, otherwise you won't be able to get access to the lab, nor the entire lab webpage. Every page has been updated. The Equipment section has been updated with a downloadable lab floor plan at the very top of the page (copies have been posted in the lab), while the Software section has been updated with the Pike and Edmund Optics camera drivers put up for download at your convenience.

New members of the Pollack Lab, please click on the link above and follow the instructions, so there are no administrative errors that we've been encountering from the Bioe Department downstairs. If you have any questions, please ask one of the Senior Staff (specifically, Sudeshna, or Federico), or Lab Managers (Hyok, or Ronnie).

Realize that the Scion Camera Corporation (where we buy all of our CCD cameras from and are the most heavily used cameras within our experiments) are now out of business (?). I've been trying to figure this out since their website has gone down and been down for nearly two months. The reason this is important is because that website had the drivers and software to run on ImageJ for our many computer systems. SO, if you have windows XP, Vista, or OS X, we have the drivers for the camera to run on your own individual computer, or laptop, just go to the software section of the lab webpage. There are no drivers available for windows 7 computers, or ones for 64-bit systems.

VOLUNTEERS! There is a new attachment within the protocols section of the lab webpage. Although you have to fill out other forms and turn them in, this document (Volunteer Musts) only requires that you read it. It is your obligation as a volunteer in the lab.

Happy New Year! A couple changes have been made to the lab webpage. Security features of the webpage have been reworked so new members who do not have a UW NetID can access the news, lab protocols (to get started) and the lab meeting schedule. For the security of our equipment, lab members and other stuff, they require a NetID. Also errors in the webpage, such as when you click on a link of a picture and cannot go back to the lab webpage, have been corrected. Additions to the lab equipment, such as manuals and drivers have also been uploaded.

Hey everyone, so I have appended to Ivan and Amrita's internal Pollack Lab website. Some changes were major, some minor. With help from Hyok, Fed, Yan and Sudeshna, I was able to consolidate a lot of the material (files, forms, etc.) and centralize their locations, so it's easier for new lab members to start experiments right away.

Towards this goal, you will notice now that the staff pictures also have office locations on them, so new students don't always have to ask where who and so-and-so is. Next, I have attached email addresses to all of the student pictures if we ever need to contact them. Appropriate staff/students have been added/subtracted to the lists in conjunction with Hyok and discussions with other lab members, and are now matched to Sonia's list of who has lab access, or is a high school/UW/UW Bioe student.

Some additional links in the menu were also added. The Software link allows lab members to download up-to-date software that we use all the time for our experiments and lab work, i.e. ImageJ, camera drivers, printer drivers, etc. There is also a new Equipment link which lists all the major pieces of equipment in our lab, who a student could approach if they needed help with the equipment, hazardous/high expense equipment and corresponding pictures, so new members (or current ones) have a better familiarity with the kinds of instruments we use and the lingo.

There also will be a webpage for pictures of meetings and events, such as the water conference, or qual exams, etc., etc., but that is under construction, enjoy!

Finally, the chemical inventory is on-line! It could be found on the corresponding page. Please, let's keep our inventory up-to-date. It will require a bit of organization, but it's nothing compared to the benefits that we get from it. Let's work organized, clean and safe. Maybe we'll get better results from it.

In future, I am planning to write a simple (or not so simple) code so we could update the inventory on-line on this web-site.

Also, we have a few things going on in the lab. One of our new labcoats suddently got missing. It's a medium-size labcoat, made in Cambodia, with knit cuffs. If anybody has it, or have seen anybody from the other lab wearing it - please let me know. - Ivan.

Please notice changes in our lab-meeting schedule.

Our lab's web-site is now on-line! The main menu is on the left. Each section is designed to provide you with a specific information:
- News: critical updates, news, interesting references, article links, etc.;
- Meetings: Lab-meeting schedule; updated once two weeks;
- Lab Protocol: lab rules, proper disposal procedures, training requirements, etc.;
- Inventory: lab's chemical inventory, updated as necessary;
- Staff/student list

Hopefully having and maintaining this site will help all of us in organizing the lab-work. Instead of sending meeting reminders every time, now I'll be updating the schedule on-line. Also, we can put important stuff in the "News" section - at the moment, you must contact me if you want to submit something on the site. I'll try to figure out later how we could do it automatically. Before buying any chemicals, make sure we don't already have them on "Inventory" page. - Ivan
