Congratulations to Engi Attia for receiving a K grant award! Dr. Attia’s study will focus on the increasing number of HIV+ children that survive to adolescents but suffer from chronic lung disease, a complication of HIV. This project will consider variation in the epidemiology, risk factors and mechanisms of chronic lung disease, detected by repeat spirometry, between HIV+ and HIV- adolescents in Nairobi, Kenya, and further characterizes subtypes of chronic lung disease with CT scans among those adolescents with HIV. Findings from this study will provide the basis for preventative and therapeutic interventions to mitigate the burden of lung disease in this vulnerable population. Congratulations Dr. Attia!
