Choose a type of exercise to learn more about material properties and the CES database. The follow the links below that open a PDF with the specific type of exercises. For easier reading print out the exercises and write the answers on the paper.

Browsing Exercises: Browse through the folders of database by selecting the folder that contains the answer to the question given. There are four questions about materials and three questions on material manufacturing processes.

Searching Exercises: Searching allows you to look for any word or word-string throughout all the CES database. There are six exercises given for you to complete by searching.

Selecting Exercises: Learn how to select materials from database by looking for specific properties of a material or process. There are three selection tools (stages) in CES that can be used for the selection process: Graph, Limit, and Tree.

The Graph stage allows you to compare any two properties in the database by plotting a graph (with additional region selection options). The Limit stage allows you to find materials and processes that meet the requirements you apply (i.e. setting limits for your selection). The Tree stage allows you to control your selection by linking the selected dataset to another dataset (essential if you want to find materials that can only be processes by a particular method). There are two Limit stage exercises and one exercise each for the Graph and Tree stages.
