The Molecular Microbiology Section is part of the University of Washington Medical Center's Department of Laboratory Medicine. Under the direction of Brad Cookson, our lab is certified by the College of American Pathologists to perform nucleic acid-based testing on clinical samples.
Our lab was founded in 2001 and has been providing the University of Washington Medical Center as well as clients around the country with real-time PCR and DNA sequence-based testing for over five years.
Licenses & Accreditation
All testing locations within the Department of Laboratory Medicine, UW Medicine are subject to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA-88). The Molecular Microbiology Division is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Instrumentation
The Molecular Microbiology lab uses Applied Biosystems GeneAmp 9700 PCR instrumentation for standard amplifications. Real-time PCR is performed on Roche LightCycler instruments. The lab performs sequence analysis by means of an Applied Biosystems 3130 Genetic Analyzer.
Personnel
The Molecular Microbiology lab employs a talented staff of licensed Medical Technologists who are involved in all aspects of testing provided by the lab.
