Abstract: Point Reyes National Seashore consists of approximately 71,000 acres of seashore, beaches, forested ridges and historic cattle ranches and dairies. Resident human populations consisted of American Indians at the time of initial Euro-American contact. Subsequently, the presence of various settlers and other newly arrived persons and groups changed the social nvironment for the native populations and altered their access to natural resources. The objectives of this multidisciplinary traditional use study will be to identify and conduct research on all of the human groups who have lived in and/or made use of natural resources in specific ways from the advent of initial non-native settlement of the area to the present.
