Abstract:

This project will benefit the public by identifying streamflows necessary to protect public resources and values in Dinosaur National Monument. It will further benefit local water users and stakeholders throughout the Yampa River basin and the larger Green and Colorado river basins by clearly defining the amounts of water that could be devoted to protecting the critical water dependent resources within Dinosaur National Monument.

This effort may allow for increased understanding and recognition of the flows necessary to support and maintain critical populations and habitats of state- and federally-listed threatened and endangered fishes that are found throughout the Yampa, Green, and Colorado river basins. Water interests within the seven Colorado River Basin states and researchers and scientists working in these riverine settings may benefit from increased understanding and knowledge of flows critical to protecting key water dependent resources.
