Abstract:

The primary goal of this project is to thoroughly document select rock art sites in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (JODA). The National Park Service (NPS) will work collaboratively with Oregon State University (OSU) to achieve this goal.

Rock art sites within JODA have varying levels of documentation. Some sites are well known and have been subjected to varying levels of amateur and professional documentation in the past, while other sites have little to no documentation at all. The primary purpose of this project will be to professionally record rock art panels and figures found within JODA rock art sites to establish the current baseline condition of the sites, and to provide standardized data aiding in future long-term NPS management, interpretation, and preservation.
