Abstract: This project will promote a better understanding of landscape-scale processes related to disturbance and recovery in parks of the Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes region. The project leverages expertise in satellite-based change detection with an extensive long-term monitoring data set to produce results for improved understanding of change of ecological dynamics of these parks, and to provide insights on underlying drivers of observed environmental changes. The project provides educational and employment opportunties for students to analyze landscape change data sets, gain experience in NPS management issues and monitoring methodologies and develop tools to facilitate cost-effective monitoring of park resources. Tasks and projects undertaken during this agreement will support the NPS mission of natural and cultural resource conservation by promoting understanding of resource status and trend. Project results will be made available to the public and to the scientific community.
