Eight Great Majors at the UW

Welcome From the Editor

By James Meadows, Program Manager, Environmental Health

Choosing a UW major requires more than just knowing the admission requirements to enter a given department. To choose well, you need to know what is exciting about the major and what students in the major study. The current issue of the Transfer eNewsletter focuses on academic departments at the UW by profiling eight different undergraduate majors. Six of the profiles offer in-depth introductions, while the remaining two—Art and English—detail curriculum changes that will offer greater possibilities to prospective transfer students.

Alongside the department profiles, you can listen to a frank and inspiring interview with transfer student, and Martin Scholar, Loyce Mbewa. You can also read the current UW Admissions Update, and learn how to study abroad through the UW Exploration Seminars.

Let me reminder you that you can access past issues of the Transfer eNewsletter from the front-page sidebar. Just click the “Previous Issues” link and you’re there. Remember that past issues contain useful articles such as, The Transfer Treasure Hunt: Preparing for majors at the UW (autumn), Departmental Scholarships (winter) and Application Deadlines for Competitive Majors (autumn). The Transfer eNewsletter is an easy-to-use archive of facts for prospective transfer students.

The Transfer eNewsletter is published three times per year so, if you are a subscriber or an academic counselor, the next issue will appear in your in-box this autumn. If you have not subscribed, check out the front-page subscription box. It’s as easy as typing in your email and answering a few questions. Have a great summer and see you next fall!
